Pizza Around The Globe

Pizza is one of the most beloved foods around the globe, but it is not just enjoyed the same way everywhere. Different cultures have put their unique spins on this classic dish, creating fascinating variations that reflect their culinary traditions and local ingredients. At Slice, we celebrate this diversity by exploring how different countries enjoy pizza. Pizza around the globe, let's go!

Italy: The Birthplace of Pizza

Let's start where it all began. In Naples, Italy, pizza is an art form. The classic Neopolitan pizza features a thin, chewy crust topped with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil and a drizzle of olive oil. Baked in a wood-fired oven, it's simple yet sublime. Another popular variety is the pizza bianca which skips the tomato sauce and uses olive oil, rosemary and salt for a light and flavourful treat.

United States: Home of Diverse Styles

In the United States, pizza has evolved into many distinct styles. New York-style pizza is famous for its large fold-able slices and crispy outer crust, often enjoyed on the go. Chicago offers the deep-dish pizza, with a thick crust, high edges and layers of cheese and toppings, baked in a pan. Detroit-style pizza, with its rectangular shape, thick crust and caramelised cheese edges is another regional favourite.

Japan: Fusion and Innovation

Japanese pizza often features unique toppings that blend traditional Japanese flavours with the Western concept of pizza. Common toppings include teriyaki chicken, mayonnaise, nori (Seaweed), and even seafood like squid and shrimp. Okonomiyaki-style pizza, inspired by savoury Japanese pancake, includes cabbage, pork and a special Okonomiyaki sauce.

Pizza is truly a gloabl phenonmenon, with each culture addings its unque touch to this versatile dish. Whether you're a fan of the classic Neopolitan or curious about trying Japanese mayo and seaweed toppings, there's a world of pizza to explore. At Slice, we're inspired by these international variations and are always excited to bring new flavours and experiences to our menu. Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate the global love for pizza, one slice at a time.
